A colleague just pointed this out to me, it called trendrr (as in flickr).
Trendrr's about page reads:
What is Trendrr?
Track, Compare and Share
Track the popularity and awareness of trends across a variety of inputs, ranging from social networks, to blog buzz and video views downloads, all in real time.
Compare trends to one another, monitoring and evaluating their status across a variety of sources.
Share favorite trends with friends and other users and discover new trends that other users are already aware of and tracking.
I'm just having a play with it now, looks interesting, in a trend spotting meets social networking kinda way. The proof is in the using as always - so thoughts on a postcard please.
This is a lot like AC Nielson's BlogPulse, which has been around for quite a while, but on a much larger scale. Very cool.

I've had a look, very interesting, not sure it has exactly the same functionality, the cost is unclear too. Is trendrr the open source version I wonder...? Thanks for pointing it out Katy. Ben
